TimeSplitters 2
What does randomization do to this game?
All 10 story levels (or 10 Progressive Story Levels, which open them in order), all 45 Arcade League missions and 21 Challenges, all 126 characters, 9 cheats, the 5 Silly Hats, 16 arcade maps (Hangar, Scrapyard and Training Ground also unlock their Assault versions), 16 arcade game modes and 26 arcade weapons are locked until you receive them from the multiworld. A group opens as soon as you have one of its missions, and only the missions you have are playable in it. You start with one mission, chosen by the Starting Item option, one random character and one random weapon. You start with no maps or game modes.
Nothing unlocks the normal way any more: completing a story level does not open the next one, and earning a trophy does not unlock the next mission, a character or a cheat.
Characters, cheats, hats, maps, modes and weapons are never needed to reach a check (Arcade League and Challenge missions use their own maps and modes). The Silly Hats cheat itself is always available, as in the normal game; the hats it offers are the items. Infinite Ammo is not in the game: it is not an item and cannot be earned. Weapons are the ones offered when building a custom weapon set in Arcade Custom; owning a weapon also unlocks its (x2) version. Unarmed is always available.
Bonus items (each Off, Start With One or Shuffle All):
Progressive Behead The Undead Score Multiplier (three): every kill in Fight Off The Living Dead, Day of the Dammed and Sergio's Last Stand scores x2, x3, then x4 points (the combo bonus grows with it).
Progressive Starting Armour (four): you start each life with 25%, 50%, 75%, then a full bar of armour: when a mission starts, after a restart, after retrying a Story level you died in and when you respawn. It applies in Story, every Arcade League mission, Behead The Undead, Banana Chomp and TimeSplitters 'Story' Classic, and never lowers armour you already have.
Weapon buffs ("Include Weapon Buffs", on by default): "Weapon Buff -
- +25% Clip Size" and "... +25% Reserve Ammo" items fill the locations left over after every other item. Each copy (up to three) adds 25% of the normal value. A bigger clip shows on the next reload. The client window has a "Weapon Buffs" tab listing the buffs you have. Cheat traps ("Include Cheat Traps", off by default): Big Heads, Small Heads, Big Hands, Fat Characters, Cardboard Characters, Rotating Heads, All Characters Cloaked and Slow Motion Deaths traps, at most three of each. A trap waits while you are in the menus and switches its cheat on as soon as you are playing, for "Cheat Trap Duration" seconds of play (10-120, default 30). Cheats you switched on yourself are left alone. Traps take the place of "Nothing" items first, and are shuffled in with the weapon buffs when there are none left.
Easier Top Shot ("Easier Top Shot", on by default): Top Shot's Platinum needs 1st place within 2:00 instead of 1:10. Silver (4:00) and Gold (3:00) stay the same.
Death Link ("Death Link", off by default): failing a Story level, Arcade League mission or Challenge (dying, a failed objective, or finishing below the trophy you need) sends a death to everyone else using Death Link. A death you receive fails whatever you are playing; in the menus it does nothing. A death that arrives during a story cutscene waits until you can move. An Arcade death you respawn from is not a failure, so it sends nothing. Dolphin's cheats must be off to receive deaths.
A multiplier received during a mission counts from the next point you score. If you had already played one of these missions before the client connected, the multipliers start working once you go back through the mission select screen. Dolphin's cheats must be off.
Only the North American GameCube version (game ID GTSE4F) is supported.
What are the checks?
- Trophies: a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum trophy on a mission sends a check for that trophy and every lower one. Exclude All Platinum Trophies, or Exclude Specific Platinum Trophies with a list of mission names (for example ["Dam Bursters"]), keeps progression items off those Platinum checks.
- Story levels: completing a level on Easy, Normal and Hard are three checks (finishing on a higher difficulty also counts the lower ones, as in the normal game). Single player only.
- Story objectives: each objective is one check, on any difficulty where it appears, at the moment the game marks it complete. Optional objectives count the same as main ones (for example "Burn All Evidence in the Filing Cabinets", optional on Easy and Normal, main on Hard). 69 in all.
- Temporal Uplink cartridges: picking up the Anaconda cartridge in 1990 Siberia, the RetroRacer cartridge in 2315 Robot Factory (Hard only; excluded with Exclude Hard Story) and the AstroLander cartridge in 2019 NeoTokyo. The games themselves are unlocked by the items "Temporal Uplink - Anaconda / RetroRacer / AstroLander Cartridge": the Temporal Uplink's Select Game menu only offers the games whose items you have.
- Temporal Uplink games (all off by default, under "Temporal Uplink Settings"):
- Anaconda: "Temporal Uplink - Anaconda - 500 Points" and so on, one per 500 points scored in a single game, as many as "How many Anaconda Checks?" says (0-20, up to 10,000 points).
- RetroRacer: "Temporal Uplink - RetroRacer - Lap 1" to "Lap 5" and "Completed" (the last lap and Completed are reached together, when the race ends).
- AstroLander: "Temporal Uplink - AstroLander - Level 1 Completed" and so on, as many as "How many AstroLander Checks?" says (0-11). Each game needs its cartridge item and at least one story level, as they can only be played from the Temporal Uplink during Story.
- Milestones (each kind can be switched off in the options): "AL - Beginners Series - Group Completed" and the like for a Bronze or better on every mission of a group, "Amateur / Honorary / Elite League Completed" for every mission of a league, and "All Challenges Completed".
What is the goal?
Chosen with the Goal option:
- 2401 Space Station (default): complete 2401 Space Station on any difficulty. It opens once you have it AND meet the extra requirements under "Goal Options - 2401 Space Station": a number of other story levels completed (0 to 9) and a number of Arcade League missions or Challenges beaten with at least a chosen trophy grade (0 to 66). Completing it is the goal, not a check.
- Trophy Hunt: earn the chosen grade of trophy or better on all Arcade League missions, all Challenges, or all 66 ("Goal Options - Trophy Hunt"). With this goal, completing 2401 Space Station on each difficulty is three ordinary checks, and Exclude Story Mode can keep anything required to win out of Story Mode locations.
